Shape resonance determined from angular distribution in D<sub>2</sub> (<i>v</i> = 2, <i>j</i> = 2) + He → D<sub>2</sub> (<i>v</i> = 2, <i>j</i> = 0) + He cold scattering

We find an l = 2 shape resonance fingerprinted in the angular distribution of cold (∼1 K) Δj rotationally inelastic collision D2 with He a single supersonic expansion. The Stark-induced adiabatic Raman passage is used to prepare (v 2, j 2) rovibrational level control spatial bond axis molecule by magnetic sublevel selection. show that rate D2–D2 relaxation nearly two orders magnitude weaker than D2–He. This suggests strong D2–He scattering caused orbiting highly sensitive long-range potential.
